Short answer: restoring does not overwrite your existing save
No, it doesn’t. When you restore an older version or backup in TopoBlocks, the default behavior is to “create a new copy” rather than write the data back to its original location. In other words:
- The world you’re currently playing stays as it is and is unaffected.
- What you restore is an independent new copy—after you import it into the game, the two worlds exist side by side.
- The original files, along with their hash, are preserved and remain traceable at any time; nothing is quietly changed.
“Zero accidental overwrites” isn’t a slogan—it’s this app’s release red line: whether restoring, repairing, converting, or generating from real maps, nothing is ever rewritten in place on the original file. The app always outputs a traceable new version.
Why “new copy” is the default instead of restoring in place
A direct “restore in place” sounds convenient, but it means using old data to overwrite your current world—and if the old version is missing the builds you put up over the last few days, that progress is gone for good. Creating a new copy keeps the choice in your hands: you can take a look at the old version first, then decide which one to keep yourself, with nothing silently replaced.
This logic runs through every operation. To see exactly how version history and “restore as a new copy” work, read How version history and “restore as a new copy” work; to back up your world first so there are versions to restore later, see How to back up a Minecraft world.
A few honest notes
- What you can restore depends on whether you have a backup. Restoring pulls an older version out of your existing snapshots / version history; if a world was never backed up and has already been completely deleted from the device, it can’t be conjured back. For cases like that, see Can a deleted/lost world be recovered?.
- On-device snapshots are free; cloud backups require a subscription and explicit consent. Manual local snapshots are free of charge; cloud backups + version history belong to World Pro (¥22/month, 20GB), and uploads / downloads only happen with your explicit consent. Prices are shown in the app, and failed paid tasks are refunded automatically.
- Restoring from the cloud doesn’t overwrite either. Even when pulling an older version back from the cloud, it creates a new copy and never overwrites the world already on your device.
